Fee Terms

All fees must be paid in full prior to the first skate, no payments will be accepted at the arena. Contact Registrar for information.  In U15AA and U15AAA, the tryout fee will cover a minimum of four ice sessions until the player is released or the end of September, whichever occurs first. Once tryouts begin, this fee is non-refundable.

Player Evaluation

Tryout drills are the responsibility of the on-ice coaches in discussion with the off-ice coaches and Category Directors

It must be presumed by the player and the parent(s) that the Coaching staff will evaluate the player in a fair and equitable manner, keeping in mind that the criteria for selection is not only based on skill but on team roles and player's attitude and character. All players, parents, and coaches must conduct themselves within the expected standards outlined in the CAC Code of Conduct and Hockey Edmonton Respect the Game.

The Canadian Athletic Club leaves the evaluation of all players to the team coaching staff who are exposed to player skill and character and are prepared to evaluate the players according to their plans for the team they have been asked to manage for the hockey season. The CAC Board members do not provide input into this process beyond “underage player” guidelines.

AAA Tryout Process

Step 1: Determine the Elite Draw Zone in which you reside and consult with your resident Minor Hockey Association on the AAA tryout process.

  1. Unsure of your resident Elite Draw Zone?
  2. Step 2: Register for tryouts with your Resident Elite Draw Zone/Team (or Elite Draw Zone approved by the Elite Male Hockey Committee).
  • Players are no longer required to submit a Notification of Tryout form, but they must complete the Elite Male Waiver form
  • Elite Draw Zones are responsible for communicating with the Minor Hockey Associations in their Draw Zone regarding players trying out for their teams.

Step 3: Attend your first AAA tryout.

Step 4: If applicable, arrange for a second AAA tryout, based on the following:

14/13-year-olds (U15 age division): If you are a 14 or 13-year-old player released from your initial U15 AAA tryout, you are permitted to arrange one (1) additional U15 AAA tryout.

  • If another Elite Draw Zone/Team agrees to accept you for a second U15 AAA tryout, you must complete the Elite Male Waiver form and have both the releasing and receiving association approve the tryout. The releasing association (email: registrar@cac-hockey.com, President: Rick McAdie) cannot refuse a second tryout.
  • If you are released from the second U15 AAA tryout, you must proceed to U15 AA tryouts or tiered hockey.
